In less than a month, Hamdan bin Mohammed will oversee the launch of Dubai’s first AI-powered urban planning platform

The Honorable The Dubai Executive Council Chairman and Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, oversaw the artificial intelligence-powered Dubai Urban Design Platform’s activation in less than a month. With the help of this ground-breaking project, Dubai hopes to become one of the first cities in the world to use generative AI in the design of its urban plan, collaborating with the local community to create a holistic vision for neighborhoods and residential areas.

At the sidelines of The AI Retreat 2024, held at the Museum of the Future in Dubai, in the presence of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), Sheikh Hamdan issued the directive while reviewing the initiative.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that the community’s active participation in the Dubai Urban Design Platform enriches it and shows the city’s unwavering commitment to future-focused solutions. This platform aims to solve present issues, foresee changes in the future, expedite accomplishments, and pursue favorable results. His Highness continued by saying that the platform is an example of a joint effort between the community and the government to make Dubai the best place to live or work.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, the Supreme Committee for Urban Planning in Dubai, and the Dubai Municipality collaborated to create the Dubai Urban Design Platform, which aims to improve sectoral and community engagement. It invites people and partners from other fields to contribute their thoughts and ideas, turning them into concrete projects in Dubai’s urban planning decision-making process. Using AI, the platform aims to maximize funding for projects related to urban planning and design. Additionally, it seeks to encourage a creative spirit among the populace that finds expression in original concepts for urban development.

The platform will be centered on applying cutting-edge technologies to improve the effectiveness of city planning and the ability to quickly adjust to transformative futures. It will also assist in organizing community-based design events that bring together decision-makers and other community groups, such as retreats and specialist seminars.

With assistance from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Center for Government Innovation, the Dubai Urban Design Platform is managed by the Supreme Committee for Urban Planning in Dubai in association with the Dubai Municipality and the artificial intelligence startup Toretei.
